This will taste like a strawberry shake if you use a banana that is truly ripe. Frozen strawberries will lend it a shake-like texture.

No, coconut milk absolutely doesn't reduce calories. It has 230 calories for 100 gr, compared to 62 for whole milk. It's time to stop branding coconut milk as healthy food.

Roz

By using frozen bananas, there is no need for ice cubes. Stevia works instead of honey. Coconut milk is a good alternative to milk. The last two reduces calories.

Mercedes

I make mine rather simple: target sells the frozen strawberries and frozen bananas in one bag. I always keep at least one bag in my freezer so when the mood hits me I put the quantity to my taste in blender with milk and blend: ready to go. I have not tried adding honey or vanilla. Will give it a shot and see if I like it. Otherwise, the way I've been doing it is simply delicious!

Ira

I substitute buttermilk, coconut milk, or yogurt for the milk. Instead of regular ice cubes, I freeze coconut water in ice cube trays and use those.

Bethy

Why hull the strawberries if they are going in the blender? I don't, and it tastes no different and a little greenery is added to the smoothie.

Max

No need for any sweetener. I use frozen bananas as a base and add one or two types of frozen fruit that I have in my freezer (strawberries, mangoes, pineapple, etc.) To freeze bananas, peel and put in a plastic freezer bag. They might stick together a little, but they are easy to separate. YUM!

B

I add fresh mint - so good!

Mario Burgos

That makes another recipe.

Maxine Godfrey

okay, this is NOT your PC-type recipe: i use a really overripe banana, so no need for extra sweetening. frozen strawberries, 2 scoops of CoffeeMate, heavy cream to taste, and finish up with whole milk. DELISH!!! smoothies don't always have to be "healthy" when there's strawberries and cream involved :-)

Catherine

I use a cup of nonfat yogurt instead of milk. The ripe banana makes the smoothie sweet enough. You don't need the honey. You don't need ice if you use frozen fruit.

1 cup almond milk, 1 cup 2% Greek(I prefer fa*ge) yogurt, 2 Cups Frozen Berries. 36 Grams Carb, 26 Grams Protein, 8 Grams Fat.Lately I've been adding 2 Tbls Flax/Hemp and 21 Grams Syntrax Nectar Fuzzy Navel.

Arati

Excellent exactly As is. Really yummy.

Best without coconut milk my kids are allergic to coconut’s

jessie

simple and healthy

Cat

Really good. A little thick vanilla was a nice touch. I shared it with my sister and she loved it

KristeN

I enjoy this s as-us with no modifications, but because smoothies are fun to riff off of, I occasionally swap out the honey for 2 dates, add nutrient-dense leafy greens, avsmall knob of ginger, and cashew kefir instead of milk. 6 year old loves a smoothie for breakfast and this one is heavy in our rotation!

Suzit

Yum! Did not include the ice cubes. Didn't need them. Perfectly refreshing for a hot day

Peanut

Good simple recipe, makes a good amount for 3 people.

Adrienne

Oat milk makes it vegan! I used simple syrup instead of honey too.

My hubs and I have a smoothie most mornings. I always use plain yogurt instead of milk. If I only have Greek yogurt I have to add milk, as the smoothie is too thick. First crop berries from the farm need honey, end of season ones don’t. I add mango when it’s in season, or pineapple. Good basic recipe for any smoothie. Most important to me is the vanilla; it adds so much flavor.

Jane Frazee

What about almond milk as a milk substitute? Has anyone tried that?

Carolyn

i used almond milk (~3/4 cup) plus a little heavy cream i had on hand. But i routinely use almond milk so would expect it to be pretty tasty even without the heavy cream . However, my bananas were over-ripe and frozen.

blisssu

This recipe is so easy--just 5 ingredients--and simple to make vegan. I used home-made almond milk mixed ⅔ to ⅓ with my almond milk yogurt (for the tang) and agave nectar instead of honey. Very good, but next time, I'll try 1 or 2 Medjool dates for the sweetener to enhance the flavor.

Why is their no nutritional information for this recipe? This an OK smoothie, I substituted almond milk and agave as per my personal preferences.
